About Us

Together Then, Together Now : The Journey of BMC '94

Naïveté is the only single word that sits apt for all the 17, 18-year-olds we were in the winter of ‘94.

We were a bunch of nerves from different states and in various states of fantasy with both the clouding and clarity on becoming a doctor. Handpicked prunes and foreigners to each other, we broke the ice in the dissection hall and over formalin-soaked cadavers. No sooner were we a family that imagined Hematoxylin and Eosin art under the microscope together.

From getting ragged in aliquots in college and the hostel to sitting in the reading rooms, library, those benches in and about the canteen and the auditorium, the quadrangle, the ground, the freaking over osteology and bones, histology and physiology microscopes, that grossed up feeling handing an alive frog asking for it to be pithed, the conscious dressing up for the class socials, the sighting of boys and girls, their singing and their applauding, CMEs and APICON, bunking classes at the word go, the rose days, the hopes and the wait, the bank counter and their affable executives, the office, paying off the fee, the punctual visits to the HODs offices for apologising for attendance shortages, the strike period, wasting time to buy time for exams by getting it postponed, the irony of it all.

Impossible to contain the decibels in the lecture halls to a pin drop as the Prof entered the lecture hall.

That daily eyeing of the Hippocratic oath painted at the entrance, those bikes in the parking with couples and the wannabes, the checking out of all of the hot, hip and happening crowd of the the college, the temple, the ringing bells and the gajras laid up, the crossing of various streets to reach the Vani Vilas, the Victoria, the Ladies hostel, Patholgy department, the corridor leading to the surgery clinics and the department of forensic medicine or the KR market with the Iyengar bakery and its baker bhaiya necessitating a pause, that signature, out of uniformity cement slab in front of Medical book Company and that bearded worker at the Prithvi book shop, the green Anand Vihar dates and the Essential Kamat plates, Sharma travels and the Std pay phones, ENT Venkateshawara block, the VVH and its canteen, Minto in isolation, Jayadeva Cardiology, Bowring and its reaching, the Majestic, Chickpet, Jayanagar, Gandhibazaar and Shivajinagar, BMC 94 would be all over the place in groups and flocks, some solo songs different in background, perceptions and musings but somewhere threaded over one standard string of ambition and cohesion which trespassed all continents and waters and here we are on a different footing all but together in the affection and care, intimacy, fervently supporting one and all! For the five years together physically and all the years of catching up, keeping together, filling the gaps, meeting up, bolstering blows and weathering storms, we sure blew hot and cold aplenty yet stuck with each other like that much-advertised glue over the TV!

"Friendship is the heartbeat of our BMC '94 family, where support and care are the ties that bind us, no matter the distance or time."
